Whitesbog Preservation Trust started as a cranberry bog in the 1860s and it bacame a booming business. Later, after years of research and failure at cultivation, Whitesbog's new proprietor, Elizabeth White cracked the blueberry dilemma and successfully hybridized local blueberries! By 1916, her blueberry dream had blossomed into huge blueberry business.
Whitesbog now grows bluebs, cranberries, hosts workshops and music shows, has trails to walk and a general store to visit. They also have an annual Blueberry Festival. We attended the 33rd Festival last year, and couldn't wait to go to this year's fest!
It was another great year, with blueberry BBQ, blueberry ice cream, bluegrass music, dusty roads and pine scented everything. It's fun to see the old farm equipment and barns, and tool, but it's equally fun to walk the dusty pine trails and eat blueberries from the bushes.
I expect we'll be dropping in more often after this latest visit. We had such a great time on this visit!
