Happy Lunar New Year!
This new mothman.
We love books and we love lists. Here’s list of books.
Who is going to take this newly rediscovered fruit and jackfruit and feed the world. If I was a billionaire, or even a millionaire, this would be top of my list of sh*t to do..
Happy Year of the Tiger!
Regularly Scheduled Programming
In 2016, I started looking back and seeing what posts I used regularly and making a list. Every year, I look back for my own memory, mostly, but you may want to take a look back, too! I’m late to this article this year, but I think this year it’s especially important to log this info.
Why is that you may ask? Well in 2021, I pretty much didn’t post on my blog. If we looked back and did the calculations (I have not actually done that), I would have posted less blogs posted than in most of the past years. If these are my regular series, but I haven’t posted many of them this year, do they still count? How do we look at what series I stuck with despite being scarcely here? Which count and which don’t?
Below is a list of everything that I would consider a regular series. I’ve starred the ones that were more relevant or more often posted in 2021.
There are several series that are more usually updated, at least monthly and/or weekly:
Month in Review - A review of each month and my favorite instagrams for that month. *
Monthly Plant Update - A review of all the plants I've observed for each month. *
Mad Cat Garden - We started our garden a few years ago, but it’s become a great blog feature.
On My Mind On Friday Morning - A few things I've noticed around the internet, and life, recorded on Friday morning. *
Book Reviews - What I've been reading.*
Weekly Video Round Ups - Here I put the collection of videos from my BookTube each week. *
6 More Months of Zero Waste - In this series of posts we tackle moving to a more zero waste lifestyle. We will be taking a break (kinda) on this series up for at least the first six months of 2021.
Bullet Journal - I've been keeping a BuJo for several years now, and I like to check in about once a month.
Mad Cat Capsule - In 2017, I started keeping a capsule wardrobe, follow my progress here.
Zero Waste - 2017 also marked the start of my zero waste, plastic free journey. I post thoughts, ideas, recipes, and goals.
Something Nice - Don't you love it when nice stuff happens?
Something New - Something new I've learned or done.
.Tattoo Story - To remember my tattoos and why I got them, I record it here.
Recipes - I want to include more recipes, specifically zero waste recipes, here.
Definitions - Some terms that I and other bloggers use but might be new to you. Here’s where you can learn more about all the things we talk about on MCQ.
Product Review - This is where I record reviews of products I have tried.
Monthly Goals - I have been trying to achieve several monthly goals so taht they can eventually become regular habits.
Pandemic Pantry - Originally started to showcase how to use up items druing the worst of lock down, I have taken aspects of this practice into daily life.
Homeschooling - In 2020, I started recording my homeschooling history. I would like to expand this series more in 2021.
Tattoo Story - The stories of my tattoos.
Joy of Using Up - This has been an off and on series, but I find myself gravitating to it more and more.
A Week of Books - Here I post even more book reviews to catch up and keep on track!
Sewing/Quilting - I would really like to bring back weekly sewing posts, but so far I’ve made it about one monthly.
Shelfie - Just pics of my home. (this one is an old series, but something I would like to bring back monthly).
There have been quite a few series that have fallen by the wayside, some I would like to bring back, others that might be gone forever.
Art and Nature... - Art and nature go together. I like to write about it here.
Zoo at Home, Zoo Abroad - We love to visit animals, zoos, aquariums, etc... when we can.
Travel - One of my long standing goals is to document my travels.
Life Admin Day - This is where we check in on some admin goals we need to achieve, then see if we do achieve them.
Off Season - Notes on places I've seen, been, or explored and why I like them better in the off season.
What I Eat in a Day - I love to eat, love to know what people are eating, love to share!
Habit Shift - Here I talk about the habits I love and those I want to make
So we can see that really only a few of these actually made in to be reoccuring series this year. And scrolling back through a year of posts, it’s easy to see what some of the issues, distractions and priorities were were. My booktube definitely was part of the reason the blog was not as loved in 2021. But also, I’ve been having lots of difficulties with the squarespace interface almost all year. Those issues not only derailed my being able to actually post, but frustrated me to the point that blogging become unpleasant and upsetting. Although those issues and frustrations haven’t ceased, I have developed some workarounds that have made posting a little easier.
It’s always nice to look back, see what series and posts make a regular scheduled programing on the blog and to reflect on what I love to post. Of course that makes me think of the year ahead and what posts will be like going forward.
Do you have a series on Mad Cat Quits that you enjoy? One that you missed in the year of 2021? One that you would like to see added? All feedback is welcome!
On My Mind On Friday Morning
I loved these miniature scenes.
December sky.
I would have added something by Paul Auster to this list.
I miss Stitch and Witch’s Basque cheesecake.
Very cool paper bag design. My favorite part might be all the crinkles.
On My Mind On Friday Morning
I really love these simple photographs of weeds and wildflowers.
I would really love to hang our laundry to dry outside, but we have too many birds that visit our yard!
There’s quite a few of these Summer veggie meals that I want to try!!
The Booker Prize long list was announced! There are several books I’m interested in reading. Have you read any of the novels on the long list?
We recently had a huge plant grow in our yard that looked like this Cow Parsley from the first link. Turns out it was a cousin on this plant: Deadly Hemlock!! Extremely poisonous! Needless to say, we left it alone!
On My Mind On Friday Morning
I love these old buildings and backroads.
I’m a big fan of Christo and Jeanne-Claude, so I’m really interested in seeing these daily planners.
I haven’t quite mastered the cleaning routine, yet, but this article is good inspiration.
I was making a lot more pizzas this time last year. Here’s a good little list with some pizza pointers.
Something New: Meal Plan Stories
For a few weeks now, I’ve been making a meal plan and posting it to my instagram stories.
I pretty much copied this idea from @lindsaystrannigan on instagram and I’ve been loving it! It’s nice to go through the fridge each week to see what needs to be used up and to have a list so if I forget what I was thinking, I can refer back to it. I also find it helpful to have an accountability partner in wanting to post the recap for the week. Since I started, I can see that we have less food waste and don’t buy as many duplicates when shopping!
Do you make a meal plan? Do you use any kind of system? What other tips do you have for cutting down on food waste?
On My Mind On Friday Morning
Very beautiful bug works by a Welch artist with an eye to the environment.
I liked this little article about stopping train service to rescue a cat!
Along with Sherlock Holmes, The Great Gatsby has also entered the public domain. What fun interpretations are on the horizon?
Dana Scully’s Suits.
I’ve really only tried the Truff and Crystal hot sauces on this list (I don’t like either). Sure, I’ve eaten jerk, zhoung, Kewpie, and ponzu sauce, but I’m not counting those as they were not eaten at home and with purpose. I would like to work my way thru this whole list of interesting and exciting sauces. Below are the ones I’m most interested in.
On My Mind On Friday Morning
I miss New Orleans every day. It’s crazy to think it’s ben 2 years since my last visit. This was a really cool look at how they are dealing with the pandemic for Mardi Gras. I think I would like this better than the parades. I would loooove to go see it, but you know….
You know I love citrus in the winter. Here is a list of lemon recipes and a stand alone lemon pasta recipe. Can’t wait to try some of these.
This was a really interesting article about Truman Capote, arising from a new documentary coming out soon. (and a review of the film, here.)
Did you know that wombats have cube shaped poop?
These were beautiful drone photos of a lake in Australia.
2021 Quarterly Goals | Q1 (Jan Feb Mar)
Here we are in Jan 2021 and it’s time to get going on our goals!
Previously I had made monthly goals but for 2021, I’m trying out quarterly goals. These are small things to do, to make into habits, that will help me both in my daily life, but also help me work towards my larger yearly goals. Here are the things that I want to work on in the first quarter.
get dressed every day
Sounds like a no brainer, but I this is something that I don’t do if I don’t have to a lot of times. Especially since leaving my job, I think this is going to be a really important goal and eventually habit. I see this as a way to stay productive, and be ready to go where the day leads me.
yoga every day
We should say “yoga” but I wanted to make sure to change this goals language from how I previously thought and wrote about it. I think changing how I view this goal (from stretching to yoga) will help me achieve it. If you’ve been following along, you know I’ve been trying to unlock this goal forever. Hopefully this is the year!
face smoothing
I dabbled in this early in 2020, but I find this habit invigorating and comforting. Overall good self care. But also, vainly, I hope that I can keep my skin feeling and looking a bit young.
10 k steps
I did soooo well with this goal in early 2020. This is one thaqt I think I will constantly see saw with, but I would love for it to become a part of my life that is automatic.
monthly life admin day
I’m thinking at the end of every moth would be a good time to take one day and really focus on getting the things done that I have been putting off. One pitfall to be careful of is not to just leave things for that day.
cleaning schedule
Another activity that I want to get more scheduled in is cleaning. Whether it be daily, weekly, or monthly, I want to have a more regimented cleaning schedule in order to get more things than just basic cleaning. Dusting, vacuuming and other deep cleaning tasks need a time to get done more often.
3 vids per week
I want to stay consistent and find a schedule that works for me. I want to grow my channel and creat a community there. It just occured to me that I should shanre some more detailed goals about my channel here.
6 blog posts per week
As with the last goal, I wnt to get in the habit of posting more consistantly, and grow this community. If you’ve read this far, let me know some 1 thing you like about this blog and 1 thing you dont?
instagram
And here, I would like to link the last two goals and this one. I want to get my insta back to a place where when I look back on it, I see a diary of the weeks and months. And I also want to incorporate my blog and channel into my insta.
What kind of goals are you setting this year? Big goals that span the who 12 months? Quarterly goals, weekly goals? Daily goals? How are you helping yourself achieve you ambitions, intentions and dreams in 2021?
Life Admin Day 11/25/2020
Well, it’s been a long time since I have had a proper LAD and I need one! A Life Admin Day is a day (or a few hours of a day or a few hours over a few days) set aside to get your sh*t together and complete some annoying but necessary life tasks.
Here’s what’s on my itinarary for today:
Marty pills (6am)
Marty surgery (8am)
Visit Gus (cat sitting)
Call my car insurance and sort out car
Call DMV if needed
Pay Bills
Look into eye doc bill from 2018
Find razor blades
Find doc, make appointment (me + chris)
Afternoon walk
Clean out fridge
Make soup
Film
ZW vid
Tag vid
Some of the things on my list are fuin, but most of them are things that I just need to get done. Many of these things are things that I HAVE to get done by the end of the year. I’ve known about them for a long time, but keep putting them off. Surprise, surprise it’s almmost the end of the year and I’m running out of time!
I often add these big tasks to my LAD list and also my more mundane tasks that I also need to get done that day. Sometimes breaking up the big tasks with more routine projects breaks up the bigger list and makes it feel more doable. LAD tasks are also sometimes things that can’t be totally finished in one day, so adding things like doing the dishes, etc… help me feel like I got a lot accomplished.
What are some projects, tasks and to-do items that you have been putting off in 2020? What do you need to finish by 2021?
~edit~ Editing Mo, jumping in here to say that this Life Admin Day was a total bust! Nothing in my day went the way I was planning and I was only able to cross off 3 or 4 tasks. This is why I often set my LADs up to have two days in a row to complete my goals. This time I’m not able to do that bc of the holiday. While this is terribly unsatisfying, it is a good lesson to not procrastinate and/or set up more regular Life Admin Days in order to complete all those pesky life tasks.

Something New: Tracking Your 1/2 Hours
One thing I’m always worried about is not having enough time to do everything I want to do. I find that worrying about this often wastes time! I fear that I can only accomplish a few goals for the day, or that I cannot get to the avocations that fulfill me due to work, obligations, or indecision. I often see people navigating the hours of their day will little to no problems or fear of not getting enough done. They don’t seem as worried about this problem as I do. There could be many reasons for this, but I often envy their organizational skills or ways that they prioritize their time. Where do they find the time?
A friend suggested breaking down my day by the 1/2 hour and seeing what I spend my time on. Perhaps then I can see where it goes!
Thinking it a great idea I started right away. I tracked my half hours for a little over a week. It may not have been an idea week as we were dealing with a lot. Our eldest cat was dying and it took a lot of time and care. Although this fact might have made my week a little more scattered and my priorities slightly different than a “normal” week, I still think marking my 1/2 was super informative!!
I started by finding a physical notepad to write the full day in 1/2 hour increments. You could of course do this digitally as well, but I like to sit down and write and read these sort of experiments. After each day, I would look over what I had done. I added a spot for notes, but never really used this, keeping my notes in my head, instead. I always knew I was a flitter, but this productivity experiment confirmed it. Aside fro work and sleep, almost every half hour was divided with several tasks. Writing and watching youtube, sewing and listening to a book, a little cleaning, a little eating, a little work. I flitted from one thing to another, never really getting into the meat of any project or task. This was heightened by having to give our cat meds, fluids and check on him every few minutes, but only slightly. Although, this wasn’t exactly new info, seeing it this way put it in some kind of new perspective.
Working for other people, commuting to work, getting ready for work took up a lot of time. Seeing all those half hours and knowing that they didn’t even include the time spent each section of the day worrying about work was also not a surprise. Also, not surprising, I spend a lot of time sleeping. The later, I prob won’t change much, but having a more set wake up and nap time would be helpful.
Overall, this exercise made me realize some things about how I work and what I do that I would like to change. I now know that grouping time to do certain tasks would be more productive for me. For instance, taking a solid hour or ore to write, read, clean, etc… would help me for getting things done and having more time for all that I want to do. Now I just have to put that into practice!
Would you try this exercise?
2020 Monthly Goals | August Goals and July Recap
Somehow I did worse on my July goals then my June goals??
Inbox to zero, but really this time
Sometimes when I look at my inbox I just feel dread.
Did even touch it.
Make 1 comic
I’d really like to find a way to chronicle my experiences
I did actually do some sketches for this. I don’t have a clear goal or story in mind tho, so that’s as far as I got.
Make 1 video
I’ve made a few in the past, but I would like to get better at it.
Not at all.
Stretch
I’m not sure why I can’t get this into my routine.
Nope. But I am rolling this one over.
Restart sourdough
June was rough and I was not able to keep up with it but I really like having starter for breads, pancakes and cookies.
This goal I actually decided was not well suited for the Summer. I do plan on starting my starter again in the Fall.
Work on Decluttering
I’n not going to fool myself that I can declutter everything in one month, but I have been trying to get some progress made on this goal.
Did not do.
Here are my August Goals:
Sew
I’ve started to get back into this and I want to make it part of my daily life.
Stretch
I have got to figure this goal out.
Make 1 video
it doesn’t matter what it is or what it’s about. I just gotta get the process started.
Tattoo work
I want a tattoo, I want to tattoo. I just have to do something on this goal. Either book an appointment for a tattoo, or practice the art of tattooing.
First steps on my book
In July, I had a realization of a book I want to write. I would like to take some baby steps to this.
Looking over my Aug goals, I see that they are all creative! I must be craving some creativity in my life right now!! Are your end of Summer goals about productivity or creativity?
On My Mind On Friday Morning
Another photo essay about windows.
I love the idea of having items that might be considered obsolete long into the present day! What old or “outdated” device are you still holing on to?
Here’s another list from NJ News on spots to visit around the state. And if you are planning on braving the beach, here’s a list of how much it will cost you.
Yesterday I wrote about thinking about what you want to keep from your time on quarantine, here is an interesting article about what some people will continue to hold dear.
I don’t love Treehugger’s new website, but they still have great articles. Here’s one about gearing up for Plastic Free July! It shares a lot of the same tips as I would.
Something to Try: A New Morning Routine for 2020
I've been trying to be more producticve in the mornings for...oh, my whole llfe.
Here is the morning routine I’ve been in for the last few years, modified for isolation (no taking my husband to the train any more!) over the last few months:
Wake - no phone
Bathroom
Make coffee, feed cats
Write down dreams
Bujo than check internet
Blog work
Dishes
Something to eat
Husband gets up and “goes to work”
Like many routines, this is the basics but often changes due to random circumstances. This is just loosely what I do each day. Although in some ways I make an effort to stick to aspects (like not going on the phone before writing down my dreams, or trying to fill out my bujo before I check the internet), I haven’t been very discilpined about any of it. I feel like I’m really missing out on time to be productive as well as a way to start my day in a slow and healthy manner. Since the future of what mine and my husband’s work life looks like and how much time we get to stay at home is up in the air, I want to create a better more productive routine to get the most of my mornings. This includes getting more work done, but also being more mindful and happy.
Building routines take work and effort and sometimes those are the last things I want to exert in the morning. But I also know that when I start my day on the right foot (so to speak) I feel better all day. So I’ve been thinking for a few weeks now about what my ideal morning routine would look like and how I can achieve that.
Here are some things that I really want to incorporate into each morning:
Going outside
Early morning walk
Reading
Staying off the computer
Sourdough
Cleaning and tidying
I think one of the most important aspects of this new routine and one of the things that will be hardest for me will be to change where I do certain things. In my current routine, I sit in front of the computer almost immediately and this allows me to use it very easily, almost without thinking. In an effort to be more mindful about each aspect of the routine, this needs to stop.
Here’s what I would like to work on in the month of June. This doesn’t incorporate every aspect that I want to have, but it’s a good start:
Wake up - no phone
Bathroom
Cats and coffee
Write dreams (at computer)
Read and bujo (either away from computer or outside)
Go outside, even just to check the garden
Dishes, breakfast, tidy
News for 15 min only
Blog work
Sourdough
Into the day
I don’t want to put a time stamp on any of these action bc I although I want my mornings to be more productive, that doesn’t mean that have to be rushed. But I would like to get back in the habit of getting up “early” and have this entire routine done, at a leisurely pace, before my husband gets up to start his work day or, before I have to go to work myself.
What routines do you find helpful in the morning? What is the one things your morning would not be complete without doing/having? Do you have any advice for sticking with a productive and midful morning routine?
Asbury Park Gift Guide | Mother's Day in Lockdown
I’ve always wanted to do a gift guide for Asbury Park. My town has so many neat places to visit, cool shops, and great restaurants. I love to promote it. But something about promoting retail didn’t quite ring right with my blog. Once quarentine started I realized that this gift guide wasn’t promoting retail as much as it was promoting small business and community. That’s just right for this space!
This year is going to be a weird one for gift giving, but that’s all the more reason to put some mindfulness into it, instead of just picking something up from a big corporate shop. This gift guide is cutting it a little close but in a year like this, a belated gift is fine and welcome, I’m sure! Here are a few things that are great ideas if you live in or near Asbury Park.
Get flowers delivered (or to deliver) from local purveyors.
Meaberrie Market has amazing flowers, dinner, sweets, and specials every day they are open and for mother’s day.
BluebellNJ sells flowers, candles, dried bouquets and flower art.
AP Greenery’s site is still saying they have normal hours, but their instagram has more info. They have awesome floral arrangements and plants.
Since mom can’t go to her favorite Asbury Park spots, give her a keep sake from them.
Who knows when concerts will come back? In the meantime, get mom some Stone Pony merch. (Or is she’s more a foodie, try the Scone Pony. )
We love Silverball Pinball Museum and they are open for take away pizza, and have mugs, tshirts and more available to help support them through this time.
Rebel Supply is selling merch, mystery packs of vintage clothing, and selling masks. The store has got to stay closed but pick ups and delivery is available.
Now that many restaurants are back open for take out, get her a meal, or give her a gift card for pick up or delivery or to use after restaurants have reopened for guests.
Some of my favorites are Franks Deli (great for sub sandwhiches and the best local cheesecake!!), I hear The Galley Pizza has great cheesesteaks, we are super excited that Ada’s Gojjo reopened for takeaway (my attempt at injera was a bust, so I’ll be happy to eat some authentic Ethiopian food again!), and of course Talula’s has pizza, provisions, cocktail kits, merch and more!
I’m sure you can find similar things near where you live, also! Use this guide as inspiration for your own city or town. There’s so much more I could have listed. If you want to see more small business guides, please let me know!
This mother’s day I probably won’t see my mother. I haven’t seen her since the beginning of March. I hope we can be reunited soon. And I you are reunited with your loved ones soon as well!
2020 Goals | April Recap and May Goals
I would have thought that an entire month of quaretining would have gone by slowly. Not because there was nothing to do (I’m a firm believer that people who are boared are not paying attention), but bc I finally got to live the slow life style I’ve been craving. But April flew by and left me only wanting more time and more of the same. Although this month I thought I would have plenty of time to achieve all the monthly goals I set, the month still got a way from me in that department.
Learn some and do some yoga
I’ve been putting this off, but now’s the perfect time to make some progress.
This was my most ambicious goal and the one I totally failed. I should have known.
Finish some art and illustration
I’ve been enjoying @carsonellis ‘s daily quarantine art prompts and #transmundanetuesdays but haven’t actually done any yet. I want to finish my cross stitch. Many more projects I can think of!
I did do some art this month, not a ton, and I didn’t completely finish some of the things I wanted to, but progress was made. I’ll call this a partial win.
Read 3 books
I’m really trying to get off the computer and the phone and do more of the things I love.
Totally nailed this one.
Be mindful of the garden
I’m not a stellar gardener. I’d like to learn to be better at it.
I’d say I did ok with this goal.
Continue to improve my health
Eating well, cooking, finding new low waste alternatives, and home remedies are key at this time and I want to continue this journey in a purposeful way.
Eh, not much was done on this goal, but I was more mindful of it.
On to May:
Do not over work/take your days-off off.
Having not to go to work for six weeks, was some of the most relaxing and rewarding time of my adult life. I want to make sure I carry some of that feeling over while my work schedule is still sparse.
Remember all your goals/the things you liked about lockdown/isolation.
I really want to make sure that I keep up with habits and routines I had over those six weeks. It was a good lesson in what’s important and what needs to remain priority.
Keep sourdough starter alive.
I’m doing so far so good on a once daily feeding.
Walk every day.
Gotta keep it up.
Tackle one big project.
In the beginning of April I had high hopes to get some projects done. This month, I want to make sure to do at least one of them.
What are your May goals?
Mad Cat Quilts | Pandemic Pantry - Planning is Key
Having to self quarantine is interesting. I miss things I expected to miss, like going to restaurants and bars and going to work, but I didn’t realize how much I would miss being able to thrift whenever I want and go to the grocery 2-5 times per week. On the other hand, having an unprecedented amount of time to be home, pet cats, take long walks, and cook and eat great homemade food has been pretty wonderful.
Like many (hopefully everyone by this point), we’ve been trying to drastically limit how often we go out in to the world. We have dropped from going to the grocery whenever we please to going once every week or more if we can get away with fewer trips. This means that we have had to change a lot about how we shop. We used to buy things multiple times a week whenever we thought we might need something. Now we have to really plan what we need and what we will get. We also have to figure out how to do that.
The first thing I did before our first big shopping trip was to make a list of everything we already had. I didn’t write every single items down, but I did write down a lot and everything I thought was going to be relevant. While I was taking this inventory, I also jotted down a list of meals that we usually eat, as a reminder to myself, a list of items that we needed to eat asap and dishes they might be good in, and a list of a few recipes that I want to try in the future.
Having all these lists in front of me helped tremendously when I wrote a very detailed shopping list. I actually remembered to take the shopping list with me when we went on our first trip! Having the items and the list of meals made remembering what I was buying and why I was buying what I did very easy. I reused the same paper, with a new list for the next week’s shop.
For the second shop, I also took a new inventory that was more thorough than the first. We ended up eating a few of the things between making the list and going shopping. I just crossed those off. Our second shop was bigger and even more thorough than the first and I anticipate a longer time between shops, which is a goal. From the first shop to the second was 8 days. We will see how long between second and third. I plan on making another inventory a day or two before we go.
This inventory/sticking to a list method is very different from how I normally shop. Perhaps you always shop like this. Using this method allowed me to buy everything I needed but not over buy or buy duplicates. Here is my advice in easy steps:
1) Take a thorough inventory - write down everything you already have. Take note of meals you want to create, items that need to be used up, and things you want to learn to make. Remember the goal is not to hoard items, just to get you through a week or more of nutritional and pleasurable eating.
2) Write down a list of meals you can make/want to make with what’s in your inventory - You could plan it out by day and meal, or just write down the meals you normally like to eat or can make. I prefer to be spontanious, so I’ll often write meals that overlap and I can choose from when the time comes.
3) Make a shopping list based on what you still need - Think about getting thru a week or more but be careful not to over buy! We have to be even more concerned about food waste at this time. Waste not, want not.
4) Don’t forget your list! - And you reusable bags! Many groceries are not excepting refillable packaging or have done away with bulk items (in my area, at least). I do understand that these are hard places to ensure cleanliness. There is some debate about cloth bags, but most places will let you bring and use your reusable bags, as long as you bag your own groceries.
Now you are ready to brave the grocery! Good luck!
Life Admin Day 1/14/20
Hooray for the first life admin day of the year! I haven’t had one in a long time and it is over due! This year, I’m trying to work a little less each month, and I think monthly life admin days are going to be really helpful for me.
I had a lot to get done this week.
-meeting 3pm-5pm
-clean fridge
-water plants
-dirt in plants
-clean old car
-call care care
-call rx
-pick up rx
-clean table
-clean desk
-bills
-finish capsule
-clean bathroom
-call insurance
-blog photos
-hungry puppy
A lot of these things have been on my list before, either bc they are reoccurring items or bc they are things that I keep putting off. One of the main goals of the life admin day is to get those nagging things finally crossed off!
Here’s where I got to on the first day. I admit, I didn’t try too hard.
On the second day I was able to get a lot more finished. I still put off a lot of the major things. I find that that is common for my LADs bc I end up choosing the things that have a greater impact on my day to day. The longer term tasks often get pushed back. Littler things like laundry, cleaning, cooking and taking care of cats and plants often get pushed to the front. There’s something more satisfying about those things, as I can see the tangible work. Things like calling the car place just doesn’t feel as good. But all these items are important.
For this life admin day, I really really didn’t want to leave the house and that was restricting. There are a lot of reasons that I like to just stay home on my days off. I love my house and I love uninterrupted days at home, but staying home also helps me save money, keeps my waste low, and makes me take time to take care of my cats, plants and family.
Overall, I feel good about what I got done and how I spent my time. In the future, I would like to get better at limiting the time I put aside for getting things done, and getting them done within that limit.
Do you use Life Admin Days? What are some methods you use?
